Expert Match
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Energy to Communities (C2C) program provides Expert Match: free, short-term technical assistance to address near-term clean energy challenges and questions. This program is designed for community stakeholders who have decision-making power or influence in their community and need help addressing time-sensitive decisions and options for achieving clean energy goals. The Expert Match is 40 to 60 hours of assistance over 3 to 4 months. For-profit entities are not eligible to apply for this program.
Topics that can be covered by Expert Match include clean power, mobility, buildings, electrical grids, and other clean energy topics.
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and the start date of technical assistance is dependent on expert availability. The team plans to work with up to 200 communities annually; approximately 15 communities supported per month.
Resources include:
Peer-Learning Cohort
The C2C program also offers Peer-Learning Cohorts to advance local clean energy goals. These cohorts are multi-community engagements that convene entities around a common clean energy transition topic. Participating meet for approximately 6 months to exchange strategies, learn in a collaborative environment, and workshop policy or program proposals, action plans and strategies to overcome energy challenges. Experts provide up to 15 participants with case studies, analysis and modeling tools, templates, training materials, and facilitated collaboration to accelerate clean energy progress. So far, nearly 200 communities have participated in one of 12 cohorts. Cohort topics include renewable energy and grid, transportation, buildings, and resilience.
- All entities are eligible except for for-profit organizations.
- The next application period will open in the fall of 2024.
